A member of the Zpost bimmer forums has managed to ’scoop’ the second-generation 2010 BMW Z4 without a single trace of camouflage ahead of the roadster’s official premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January - though BMW is expected to release the fist photos and details in mid-December. According to the site, the photograph was taken at a BMW dealership during the filming of the forthcoming movie “Solitary Man” starring Michael Douglas. In the film, Douglas handles the role of a former car dealership chain owner who destroys his career and marriage by his business and romantic indiscretions.
Back to the bimmer, from what we can tell by looking at the photo, the new Z4 appears to have lost many of the “Bangle” oddballs of the current generation model, sporting sharper and clearer looks. Though not visible in this photo, the 2010 Z4 will be offered with a two-piece retractable hardtop that eliminates the need for a fixed-roof coupe variant in the car’s future lineup.
Engine options will include BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six which delivers in its latest iteration in the 740i 326HP instead of 306 HP in the 335i as well as 2.5- and 3.0-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines and especially for Europe, an entry-level 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine. In 2009, BMW will introduce a M Z4 model powered by the M3’s 4.0-liter V8 engine with an output of 420 HP.
