Out of nowhere, General Motors quietly added the first official image of the top-of-the-range 2010 Camaro SS on its media website. The high-performance SS version will be powered by a 6.2-liter V8 with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission SS will be equipped with GM’s LS3 6.2L V8 generating an estimated 422 HP and 408 lb.-ft. of torque (553 Nm).
The automatic transmission-equipped models will use a new L99 6.2L V8 that’s based on the LS3 but includes GM’s fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature that enables the engine to run on only four cylinders during light-load driving conditions. The L99 is rated at 400 HP and 395 lb.-ft. of torque (535 Nm) and according to GM, the automatic transmission Camaro SS will deliver an estimated 23 mpg or 10.2lt/100 km on the highway.
