Nissan to Skip Frankfurt, Detroit, LA and other Shows in 2009-2010

Hard-hit from slumping auto sales, Nissan has decided to pass over most of the major international car show during the new business year, which runs from April 1, 2009, through March 31, 2010. The Japanese firm said that it has selected New York 2009, Shanghai 2009, Tokyo 2009 and Geneva 2010 as the only four shows where it will showcase offerings from the Nissan and Infiniti brands during the 12-month period to March 31, 2010.

This means that the Nissan will not make it to this fall's Frankfurt and Los Angeles shows nor the 2010 Detroit show next January. As for the firm's participation in regional and local-market shows, Nissan said that it will leave the decision up to the company's regional management.

"Nissan's move to streamline participation in auto shows is a short-term action and will be subject to review and amendment based on economic conditions facing the industry as well as consumers," said the automaker in a statement.

During the 2009 fiscal year, Nissan and Infiniti plan to introduce a total of nine vehicles around the world.
