2011 Corvette Concepts with Carbon number 01

With the huge success that the Corvette ZR1 has enjoyed since its return in 2009 many felt that Chevy would stop production of the Z06. Well those who thought that notion up were recently proven wrong in a big way as Chevy showed its commitment to the Corvette Z06. Chevy recently announced that later this summer the all new 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition will be made available. This special edition Vette is only going to go to 500 lucky individuals and it will of course bring all sorts of goodies with it.

The auction will be televised on Speed and if you are a Corvette fanatic you will not want to miss this piece of history when it hits the auction block. Though you may not be able to afford to bid on the first ever Corvette Carbon you can still get caught up in the thrill of all those who will be pushing the bid higher and higher.

Whoever does end up with Corvette Carbon number 01 will have a tough choice to make. Do they drive it around and enjoy all that is Corvette or do they simply make it into a show car and lovingly stare at it day after day? While the latter is probably best for retail purposes, driving it would be a lot more fun.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray pics

Collection of cool Chevrolet Corvette Stingray sports cars including a few concept cars thrown in for good measure. Hope you like them!

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has got to me one of my favorite cars but they are very hard to get hold of and I can imagine the car insurance would be eye watering, not to mention the petrol consumption!

Mallett Corvette Z03

Many people are simply drawn to cool cars. Behind the artistry and superfluous lines lies the maker’s true passion to make an already existing work of art into something much more. This is what the 2009 USD Mallet Corvette ZO3 is. As a joint project of Mallet Cars of Berea, Ohio and Ugur Sahin Design from Gorinchem, Netherlands, the very powerful Corvette has just gotten a bit better.

The Team of USD B.V. had promising dreams for the Corvette C3. They already knew the capabilities of the favored supercar, which has a supercharger-twin turbo 7-liter V8 engine. But they wanted to create something that not had power in the inside, but it had to reflect on the outside as well. And thus they created something far more than design and style. It’s what they call Automotive Haute Couture.

Watercar Python: A Corvette Powered Amphibious Hot Rod that Hits 60mph in 4.5 Sec [WITH VIDEO]

The same folks that brought you the Subaru-powered, Chevrolet Camaro-bodied amphibian are at it again. WaterCar's latest land-to-sea-and-back creation is the Python. Hailed by the California-based company as the world's fugliest fastest amphibious vehicle, the Python is offered with a choice of Corvette V8 engines ranging from a base LS1 all the way up to GM's latest 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 that makes 640HP in the Corvette ZR1. Marine propulsion comes courtesy of a Dominator Jet drive.

Weighing in at 3,800 lbs or 1,725 kg, the Python is said to be able to reach top speeds in excess of 60mph (97km/h) on the water and 100mph (160 km/h) on land. The maker also claims that the amphibious vehicle can accelerate from zero to 60mph (96km/h) in 4.5 seconds and hit the quarter mile mark in around 12.5 seconds.

For the record, WaterCar does not clarify with which GM LS V8 engine the Python achieves these performance figures on land, though we suspect that it's the LS9.

WaterCar trumpets that the transition from car-to-boat is immediate as the only thing that the driver has to do is put the transmission in neutral then engage the jet, and push a button to raise the wheels. When coming out of the water, the d(r)iver has to reverse the process.

The company says that the Python is hand built to order and can be customized right up to the exact placement of the seats and pedals with buyers offered a choice of more than 60,000 exterior shades and 4,000 interior colors. However, bear in mind that neither a soft/hard top or air-condition is offered at this time.

If you plan on buying one, be warned that prices for fully customized and completed examples start off from a hefty $200,000 or about €137,000 at the current exchange rates.
